Apple reinvented - the profitable web

In 2010 when Steve Jobs launched the iPad I pointed at the fact that the announcement of the day was not the iPad but Apple reinvented as a profitable cloud company. The numbers shared today by Tim Cook at Apple's WWDC 2012 show the company indeed managed to deliver on the promise of a profitable web.

At today's WWDC 2012 keynote, Apple was redefined again....
Apple has  400+ million accounts with a valid credit card willing to pay for digital goods, accessing a marketplace of 650,000 apps (47% of which are paid apps). This combined with 500,000+ developers and the fact that social e-commerce, social sharing and cross device integrated experience are now deeply embedded at the Operating System layer (iOS6 and Mountain Lion), creates the perfect storm for the largest digital marketplace in the world, which now has numerous improvements to facilitate the discovery, personalization, sharing and consumption of all types of digital goods, in the device and location of choice.

Apple is doing a fantastic job at inventing or reinventing monetization mechanisms for hardware, music, software, apps, commerce, communications, etc. while some entrepreneurs and Fortune 500 companies keep looking at where the hockey puck was (tired ad monetization), instead of moving to where the puck is going.
